Common failures with Air Conditioning

The most common of all failures is adequate air flow across the indoor and outdoor coils of the Mitsubishi air conditioning system; this is usually caused by a lack of maintenance which can have a knock on effect to the entire systems life expectancy. When the evaporator and condenser coil get blocked the temperatures and pressure increase within the system and put unnecessary strain on the compressor and other components, this also increases the electrical usage when starting and running the system, costing you more to run than it should! This can also lead to bacterial build up on coils and drain pans and algae blockages in pumps and drain lines.

The second most common failure is the condensate removal pump, of which there are a large variety on the market as well as the internal Mitsubishi lift pumps built into some of the unit’s dependant on model, these items are often carried by our engineers and can be replaced on the day of attending.

Another major fault is if your Mitsubishi air conditioner is low on refrigerant, either it was undercharged at installation, or it has suffered a leak. If it has a leak, simply adding refrigerant is not a solution. F-Gas regulations state that it is illegal to top up a system that you know has a refrigerant leak, to this end you should locate and fix any leak, pressure test the system, and then charge the system with the correct amount of refrigerant.

Remember that the performance and efficiency of your air conditioner is greatest when the refrigerant charge exactly matches the manufacturer's specification, and is neither undercharged nor overcharged. Refrigerant leaks can also be harmful to the environment and are a cause of ozone depletion especially on older R22 and R407C systems which are highly ozone depleting.
